Exercises Performed With Exercise Ball

How to use a yoga ball? Ideally, you can do almost any exercise using a yoga ball. Whether you are doing workouts for your upper body, lower body, core, training for strength or balance, a yoga ball is a perfect companion.

You can step on it, sit on it, lie on it, lift it up or press it against a wall, depending on the exercise you are doing. For example, you can challenge your balance and perfect it with this exercise.

  1. Sit on the ball with your feet on the floor in front of the ball.
  2. Straighten your spine and raise the crown of your head up.
  3. Slowly lift your right leg off the floor and stretch it out straight.
  4. Hold it in the air for about five seconds.
  5. Do the same with your left leg.
  6. Repeat the exercise to your desired repetitions.

You can also increase the challenge by adding these variations.

  • #1 Instead of stepping on the floor with your feet, use your toes and lift your heels up. Slowly lift the right leg off the ground and stretch it out. Do the same for the left leg.
  • #2 Make it even harder by stepping on your toes and then lift both your legs off the ground such that you will sit with only the ball touching the floor.

While shopping for an exercise ball, here are some things to keep in mind:

  • Go for thick, heavier PVC balls that are neither too slick nor too sticky. Non-toxic, latex-free, professional-standard PVC material is always best.
  • Choose an exercise ball that will be able to accommodate your height. Your feet should be touching the floor, while your thighs remain parallel to the ground when you sit on it.
  • Ask for a video of an anti-burst test of your fitness ball from its manufacturer. They should guarantee that the ball is burst-resistant. Small bubbles on an exercise ball indicate anti-burst features and may appear as tiny particles over its surface upon close inspection.
  • Notice whether you have difficulty pulling out the stopper of your fitness ball. The harder it is to pull it out, the better its seal, and the more air it can hold over time without leaking.
  • Go for an electric pump if you can, because manual hand and foot pumps can be low-quality and troubling to use.
  • It’s better not to inflate a ball in one go fully. A partly inflated PVC ball should be allowed to rest and stretch overnight before blowing it up fully.
